Common Dental Emergencies And When To Text Us

Here are some of the most frequent dental emergencies and simple steps you can take before your visit.

Broken or Chipped Tooth

Even if your tooth is damaged, many breaks can be repaired. Text us right away to schedule an emergency visit. Small chips are often fixed with a simple bond; more severe breaks may require a crown or root canal to protect the tooth and restore function. Prompt attention gives the best chance for a successful repair.

Toothache

If you have a toothache, text us to book an emergency appointment and describe your symptoms. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help temporarily, but avoid placing medication directly on the tooth. Applying a cold compress to the outside of your cheek can reduce discomfort. Avoid heat, which may make the problem worse.

Knocked-Out Tooth

If a permanent tooth is knocked out, act quickly. If the tooth is clean, gently place it back in its socket. If that isn't possible, keep it safe and text us immediately. The sooner you reach a dentist, ideally within 30 minutes, the higher the chance of saving the tooth.

Lost Filling

If a filling comes out, protect the exposed tooth by placing a piece of sugarless gum or dental wax over the area until you can text us for a replacement. Avoid chewing on that side to prevent further damage.

Injured Tongue or Lip

For a cut or injury, apply firm pressure with a clean cloth to control bleeding. Use a cold pack on the outside of the mouth to reduce swelling. If the bleeding is heavy or does not stop within a few minutes, seek care at the nearest emergency room.

Object Stuck Between Teeth

Gently try to remove the object with dental floss. Avoid using sharp tools or pointed objects that could damage your gums or teeth. If you cannot safely remove it, text us for guidance.
